Living in Glastonbury
At just over 51 square miles, Glastonbury is by far the largest town we serve, stretching from the Connecticut River up into the eastern hills. Elevations run from about 80 feet to 800. That size is the single most important thing to understand about it: the riverside, the Main Street corridor, South Glastonbury's orchards and the eastern uplands are genuinely different places.

South Glastonbury grew up first, around grist and saw mills on Roaring Brook, and remains distinct from the Main Street center.
The housing stock
About 76% single-family detached with another 9% attached: the most single-family-weighted of the larger towns here. Construction was spread evenly across the 1970s and 1980s rather than concentrated in one boom, and under 8% predates 1940. Newer apartment and townhouse development has been added around Main Street, Hebron Avenue and Nye Road.
Getting around
Route 2 is the spine, with Routes 3, 17, 83 and 94 for local traffic. Hartford is about 8 miles from the center, roughly 13 minutes without traffic, the shortest run of any town we cover except East Hartford. UConn Storrs is around 25 miles.

Mixed, and worth checking address by address. Drinking water comes variously from the MDC, the Town of Manchester, community wells and private wells. The town health department regulates private residential wells directly. Sewers are run by the town with a treatment facility and eight remote pumping stations, while the health department permits on-site septic systems and holds as-built records back to the late 1950s, most of them viewable on the town GIS.
